Haven in the Hardwood 5k Run & Walk

The Haven in the Hardwood 5k is part of the 28th Annual Maple Syrup Festival here in Pickens. It could be 70 degrees or 30 degress, the weather in Pickens is unpredictable in March!
As you read you will notice this does not sound like your usual 5k road race. You may get wet, you may even get muddy, but you will enjoy this fun off road jaunt!
The relatively flat loop course begins near the hub of the village, the old train depot. You'll proceed 1.5mi down the abandoned railroad grade past the leper's grave, old deep coal mines, beneath rock outcroppings and laurel thickets along the Buckhannon River. After crossing Nettle Run the trail loops back on a dirt road to "the end of the line" as the Pickens Depot is affectionately called. Walkers will enjoy renewal on the same trail while taking the time to view our village from a whole new perspective.
Awards will be presented to 1st & 2nd place men & women in the following categories; Open, 12 & under, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 60 & over.
T shirts guaranteed to all pre-registrants. Entry fee $10 if postmarked by March 9, 2012, $13 there after.
Race day registration will be at the Depot starting at 12:30pm.
